who we are : our process
It all comes down to love.
Our simple goal is for people to grow in love for God, love for the Voyage community and love for the world. This is accomplished through the process of exploring, discovering, thriving and impacting via Sunday Gatherings, Community Groups, Ministry Teams and Impact Teams.
The root of the world's problems is the tendency of mankind to be self-oriented. But when we redirect our hearts, with God's help, toward God-orientation and others-orientation we will experience the joy and satisfaction of knowing that we are fulfilling our purpose and functioning in the way God intended.
In answer to the question, "Which is the greatest commandment in the law?" Jesus said, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:36-40
Love for God is more than a sentimental feeling toward God; it is a deep devotion to God that results in increasing obedience to God’s commandments.
Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.” John 14:23
Regarding love for others, Paul wrote, "Love is not self-seeking." 1 Corinthians 13:5
And he wrote of his protege Timothy, "I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:20,21
He also wrote, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself." Philippians 2:3
Such feats of selflessness may seem out of reach, but they are quite possible as sincere Christ followers strive, with proper biblical motivation, to cooperate with the powerful work of God within them.
Paul makes the need for our cooperation with God's inner work clear when he writes, "Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling (our cooperation). For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose (God's work within us)." Philippians 2:12,13
Along with the two greatest commandments, Jesus also gave us what is called “the great commission”.
He said, “As you go, make disciples of all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And behold, I myself am with you day after day, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19,20
In conjunction with this, Jesus also said, “Let your light shine before men so that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
We want to impact the world through both loving deeds and loving words.
Remember, people these days do not care how much you know until they know how much you care, and they want a community to belong to before they want a message to believe in.
So above all, let us grow in loving God and loving others more and more!
